Issue #2

The Black Issue

We’re back again and we are talking about some of the contributions that black folks gave to the interior design and architecture. I started this journey into interior design more than a year ago and one thing I noticed or lack of better words “didn’t notice” was folks that looked like me.

I’m fully aware of the double edge sword the theme of representation is. But I can’t lie and say it does help to encourage me to push forward on this path I’m embarking on.

I grew up witnessing the way black folks have made and moved space on many different levels. That being with home to political movements. This issue I wanted to touch on the way black folks have taken up and inhabited space in multi-dimensional ways. Those being in the interior and architectural landscapes. Like the last issue, it will include written pieces, illustrations and collages by myself. This issue will also include my first interview with an interior designer. Founder of Duett Interiors, Tiffany Thompson. Lastly, I got to have a conversation with dear friend and visual artist Nykelle Devivo about what home means to them and their recent instillation they debut this year called, ‘Arkestra L,anding’.
