Issue #1
My love letter to Interior Design
the idea of creating a zine came to my mind when I was going down a YouTube rabbit hole and a video about the history of zine popped up. I though the idea was super cool and felt the desire to create my own. the only topic I really wanted to talk about was interior design and furniture. I started my research on where to start and ultimately ran into several dead ends. one, because a lot of the zines I was finding were super DIY and political or two, they were photo books. so, I was at ground zero, trying to figure out how I was going to be this. after a long work week, I decided to pay $15 for Procreate on my iPad and stayed up until 3 o’clock in the morning, and created the cover for what is now issue #1 of the conversation pit.
someone asked me why the zine is called ‘the conversation pit’? and I never really thought about that question in real depth until that moment. but the conversation pit is one of my favorite architectural features that was introduced in the 70’s and I feel it’s making a comeback. also, it’s one feature in the home that truly fosters communication and community, and those two things are the main factors on why I wanted to create this zine in the first place.
in this first issue, I called it my love letter to interior design. mainly because the topic of interiors, furniture and design has been a revolving door in my life and wanted this zine to communicate that. this issue will contain written pieces by myself on topics varying from some of my favorite pieces of furniture, why the big light is not so bad and wondering where all the conversation pits went. all illustrations and collages are by me as well.
